Party leaders back Royal warning against Israel's expansionist ambitions

Amman, Nov. 2 (Petra) -- Secretaries-general of Jordanian political parties said on Monday that His Majesty King Abdullah II's assertion that "Israel's expansionist ambitions remain the greatest threat to the region’s future and hopes" reflected the gravity of the challenges facing the region and underscored the need for a firm international stance to protect Palestinian rights and promote security and stability.

In remarks to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), they said the King's Speech from the Throne, delivered at the opening of the third ordinary session of the 20th Parliament, reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering position on the Palestinian cause, its rejection of Israeli expansionist ambitions, and the need to translate political positions into practical measures that ensure respect for international law, the rights of peoples, and state sovereignty.

Hussam Al-Khasawneh, secretary-general of the Reform Party, said the Speech from the Throne conveyed clear national messages that must be translated into action and responsible positions.

The King's emphasis on confronting terrorism, he said, reflected a firm commitment to protecting the country's security and unity, honoring those killed in the Karak attacks, expressing pride in the armed forces and security agencies, and demonstrating confidence in Jordanians' awareness and wisdom in facing challenges.

He added that the speech reaffirmed Jordan's steadfast position on the Palestinian cause and the continuation of the Hashemite approach to defending the rights of the Palestinian people. It also reiterated Jordan's rejection of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, while warning that expansionist ambitions threaten the region's future and undermine prospects for achieving security and peace.

Eyad Al-Najjar, secretary-general of the Qudwa Party, said the king's assertion that Israeli expansionist ambitions posed the greatest threat to the region's future and hopes carried profound political and strategic implications.

He said the statement reflected an understanding of risks extending beyond violations of Palestinian rights and the undermining of prospects for establishing an independent Palestinian state to threaten the foundations of regional security and stability.

Al-Najjar said the position reflected Jordan's consistent policy of defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and rejecting attempts to impose new realities by force or undermine the rights of peoples and the sovereignty of states.

Genuine peace, he added, could only be achieved by ending the occupation, respecting international law, and enabling the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their national territory.

Sakhr Dudin, official spokesperson for the National Charter Party, said the king's remarks on Israeli expansionist ambitions placed the Palestinian cause within a broader regional and strategic context, amid policies aimed at imposing realities by force and undermining prospects for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

He said these ambitions threatened not only the Palestinian people but also Jordanian and Arab national security, making it necessary to formulate a unified Arab position recognizing that turning a blind eye to expansionist policies and attempts to impose faits accomplis would not lead to peace but would open the door to further conflict and instability.

Dudin called on the international community to move beyond statements of condemnation and calls to halt violations and take practical measures to ensure respect for international law, end occupation, settlement, and annexation policies, and protect the rights of the Palestinian people.

He stressed that safeguarding the region's future required respect for state sovereignty and the rights of peoples and recognition that security could not be achieved through force and expansion at the expense of others but through justice, legitimate rights, and the establishment of the foundations for peace and stability.
